The Art of Mnemonics
I read one book about the art of mnemonics when I was in my elementary school days. I , however , didn't try it since I felt that I had a good memory at that time and I thought that I didn't have to take note for memorizing something. Now I think that information which I needed to deal with was very simple then.
I grew older and I feel information which I have to deal with has been getting more complicated. Its amount has been also increased. In addition, my interests are broad and not well organized, anyway. Therefore, I bought a book about the art of mnemonics the day before yesterday. Then, I have been trying it. It really works on me much better than I had never expected. Although it requires me to use and expand my imagination, I realized that it was pleasant, actually. Now I am getting confidence of my power to memorize at least numbers although I need to make effort for fixing it.
Proofreading
I have been proofreading one book which is going to be published. It's the book about spies in Europe during World War 2. I'm working a translated book from English into Japanese. I expect a reward for this job. I have checked mainly proper nouns which includes not only English nouns but also German and Russian. I know some basic basic German like how to pronounce. But, I have no idea in Russian. Therefore, I have got permission to ignore Russian stuff from the person of a publishing company. Anyway, I have completed almost one hundred out of seven hundred pages( The original English book has almost five hundred pages. On the other hand, Japanese-translated book has more than seven handred pages).
In the very begging, I felt clumsy in doing the job. However, I am getting used to it. Now it's kind of fun although I feel some responsibility.
Good News from the U.K
I went to listen to poetry reading by Yasuki Fukushima in Kichijouji. Mr.Fukushima is one of lecturers at my university. He holds the chair of poetry discourse and some other courses. However, I had never met him. Mr.Fukushima recently published one book which has got into the new about special manufacturing methods. I heard that national TV programs featured him some days ago.
Anyway, this is the first time for me to listen to his voice at live house. Although I couldn't imagine it very well, I soon understood his greatness and just love his extremely low tone voice. The show featured piano and a vertical bamboo flute player. It was like a jam session of Jazz.
When I came home, I have received little thick envelope from the U.K. It was from Graduate School of the University of Birmingham. It told me that I've got qualification for admission. It means I can go to the U.K. from this coming fall. I have felt relieved.
